The Fountain of Youth in Healthcare is Fostering an Innovation Mindset

Chief Growth Officer, Claritev
The healthcare industry is moving at a record pace. In conversations with clients across the healthcare ecosystem, I hear a consistent challenge: regulatory pressure, margin compression, changing consumer expectations, and the rapid rise of AI are requiring leaders to make increasingly complex decisions amid constant change.
Finding the right balance between stability and innovation isn’t easy. While access to new technology is frequently sourced through startups, they can struggle when faced with enterprise scale. On the other hand, many large tech companies have enterprise scale, but they lack a deep understanding of healthcare and the complexity of the decisions our clients must make.
To successfully drive value in healthcare, we need to infuse experience with adaptability; to innovate for the unique needs of our complex industry. Our company has been serving the healthcare industry for more than 45 years, and we have found that sustainable innovation in a mature environment requires three things: investment, adaptability, and visibility.
Investing for the future
45 is an interesting age when you think about it. You have life experience, but if you haven’t been making intentional choices for your future, you might not be in great shape. Being dedicated to getting better every day; that’s the work behind the fountain of youth.
Imagine a 45-year-old who consistently eats well, invests in their future, and exercises regularly. They’re thriving today while preparing for tomorrow. That paints a picture of where Claritev is as an organization. We have the wisdom of age but the agility of youth.
Invest strategically: technology modernization and AI readiness
One example of this concept in practice is our reinvestment in our technology infrastructure. Through strategic investments and meticulous planning, we are supporting the ability to quickly scale. It creates the foundation needed to quickly stand-up solutions in market to accommodate the rapid pace of change in our industry. It also provides structure to responsibly build our AI strategy with our highly experienced team of experts.
We don’t want to just be strong today, but rather well positioned to stay that way for years to come.
Flexibility to stay nimble
Today’s healthcare organizations must be willing to adapt and nimbly shift business models to balance opportunities with financial sustainability.
We see this in conversations with leaders who are exploring new approaches, including on-demand services, cash-pay networks, and greater visibility into the cost of care. This demand varies not only by demographic factors like age, but also by region.
No market is one-size-fits-all. It continues to evolve based on expectations of each generation and what they need from healthcare. Static business models aren’t viable in our dynamic industry. We need to stay poised and ready to build for the future.
Our industry tends to lag in adopting new technologies. That can result in heavier administrative burden and ultimately less-than-optimal patient experiences. It’s not because healthcare isn’t innovative; it’s because the stakes of our decisions have far-reaching consequences.
If you look at the healthcare financial lifecycle, a streamlined approach, supported by technology from end to end, can result in better outcomes for patients, faster payments for hospitals, and greater predictability for health plans.
But connected technology platforms and comprehensive strategies don’t happen by chance. They are the result of deep industry expertise, laser-focused on helping organizations prepare for and respond to headwinds of our environment.
Stay adaptable: regulatory changes and evolving business models
Clients also need to respond quickly when regulatory complexity creates new operational and financial risks. When you look at the complexities created by state and federal No Surprises Act legislation, staying nimble is critical. Health plans, for example, must create multiple workstreams to accommodate these ever-changing regulations.
We recently worked with a client struggling to meet regulatory compliance which put them at risk of financial penalties. Based on our deep domain expertise in surprise billing, we were able to quickly stand up a dedicated team, supported by AI, to support compliance with state law.
The risk was removed thanks to our ability to act quickly and create a solution that met this specific need. It required both experience and innovation, and if the policy shifts our team will be flexible and ready to move.
Visibility to plan for what’s ahead
Healthcare is under extreme margin pressure that needs relief without compromising delivery. While organizations are at different points in their journey, several common challenges continue to surface across the industry.
The ability to see patterns faster, to move quickly, needs to be balanced with experience to avoid sprinting in the wrong direction.
Create visibility: price transparency and decision support
The employer market is an example. They need new solutions that preserve member access while addressing rising costs. By using publicly available price transparency data to understand cost drivers, you can support better decision-making and ultimately reduce the burden on members.
Insights create value when they help organizations identify cost drivers earlier and make more informed decisions before costs compound. This approach supports handling not only today’s challenges but anticipating what’s around the corner and being structured so that you can adapt.
Clarity in Action
The maturity of our industry does not soften the impact of rapid technology advancements and regulatory changes. In fact, it often entrenches organizations who are stuck in outdated processes. Overcoming these obstacles, and innovating to serve the healthcare ecosystem well, is rooted in the wisdom of age paired with the energy of youth.
The most effective approaches begin with a clear understanding of each client’s challenges, not technology for technology’s sake. From payment integrity to networks to actionable data insights — when your strategy is centered on innovating for the unique needs of your industry, true value is created.
Longevity alone isn’t an advantage. The organizations best positioned for the future are those combining experience with continuous reinvention. The goal isn’t simply to keep pace with change. It’s to create the clarity, adaptability, and confidence needed to make better decisions as the industry continues to evolve. That’s the fountain of youth for a mature market.
